Aidan O Connor

HSE Estate Manager Fire Safety at Health Service Executive


A member of the Defence Forces for 18 years, he served in the Corps of Engineers and Planning and Design Offices. During that time he served with United Nations in Lebanon.

He joined the Health Services in 1999 as a Fire & Safety Officer to the then Eastern Health Board where he had responsibility for Fire Safety and Construction Health & Safety related activities.

Aidan was appointed HSE Estate Manager Fire Safety in 2010, his role now involves developing and implementing a standardised approach to all Fire Safety related activities across all HSE Regions.

Aidan is a graduate of UCD with a BSc in Occupational Safety and Health and a Post Graduate Diploma in Fire Safety Practices from Trinity College.

He is a Chartered Member of IOSH and is also a member of the NSAI review groups on IS 3218 & IS291. Aidan is also the Irish representative on the National Council of the Association of Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP).

Session summary:

Aidan's session will focus on 'Design considerations and sprinkler analysis in a New Community Nursing Unit' and will explore new design approaches and discuss the findings from the sprinkler analysis and compensating factors.
